All On 4 Solve Gag Reflex

Wearing dentures isn’t the solution for everyone, especially for those with a sensitive gag reflex. In this case, the patient was unable to use removable dentures, which severely impacted their quality of life. Our dental team proposed All-on-4 implants to create a new, fixed set of teeth without a palate, restoring their happiness and daily function.

Patient’s Problem

  • Experienced a gag reflex every time when trying to wear the upper denture.
  • Unable to use the removable denture at all, not even a little.
  • Impacted eating, speaking, and confidence.

Treatment Plan with All-on-4

To allow the patient to use their teeth again, the dental team planned a treatment with All-on-4 dental implants, which are fixed teeth, and has advantages for this case, specifically:

  • No Palatal Coverage : Does not stimulate the gag reflex.
  • Fixed : No worries about the denture being loose, falling out, and no need to remove it.

Treatment Process

  1. From the assessment, it was found that the patient’s bone structure was quite sufficient.
  2. The dentist was therefore able to place implants and attach a temporary bridge immediately (Immediate Loading), allowing the patient to have fixed, functional teeth from the first day of surgery.
  3. After a 4-month healing period, they returned to receive the final permanent set of teeth, which is stronger and more beautiful.
