A Protective Shield for Your Vital Teeth

When a tooth is severely damaged—whether due to deep decay, fractures, or root canal treatment—regular fillings may no longer be sufficient to restore its strength. A “Dental Crown” is a full-tooth restoration using durable materials, custom-crafted to perfectly match the shape and color of your natural teeth. The crown acts as a protective shield for the remaining tooth structure, preventing further damage while restoring both chewing functionality and aesthetic beauty to the tooth.

Our Dental Crown Services

We prioritize using high-quality materials to ensure results that are both beautiful and durable for long-term use. Our dentists will help recommend the most suitable material based on the tooth’s position and your specific needs.

  • All-Ceramic Crown : Offers the highest level of natural aesthetics with no visible dark metal edges, making it ideal for front teeth.
  • Zirconia Crown : Made from a special type of ceramic with exceptional strength and durability, suitable for both front and back teeth.
  • Porcelain Fused to Metal (PFM Crown) : Combines the strength of an inner metal substructure with the aesthetic appeal of an outer ceramic coating.

Who Should Consider Dental Crowns

Dental crowns are a suitable solution for individuals facing the following issues:

  • Extensive tooth decay that is too large to be repaired with a standard filling.
  • Teeth that are broken, fractured, or cracked due to accidents.
  • Teeth that have undergone root canal treatment, leaving the structure brittle and requiring protection.
  • Teeth with misshapen forms or severe discoloration that cannot be corrected by other means.
  • Used as part of a dental bridge or dental implant procedure.

How to Prepare

Generally, the dental crown procedure requires about 2 appointments.

  1. 1st Appointment (Tooth Preparation) : The dentist will examine and X-ray the tooth. Then, the tooth will be reshaped to create space for the crown. An impression will be taken to send to the dental lab for the fabrication of the permanent crown. You will receive a temporary crown to wear in the meantime.
  2. 2nd Appointment (Crown Placement) : Once the permanent crown is ready (approx. 1 week), the dentist will remove the temporary crown. The new crown will be tried on to check the fit and bite. Finally, it will be permanently cemented to the tooth using dental cement.

Getting a dental crown isn’t just a repair; it is an investment to preserve your natural tooth for as long as possible. At SMILE AND SHINE, we use digital technology to design and select the best materials to ensure your crown is beautiful, strong, and fits your mouth perfectly. Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Deciding to get dental crowns may raise some questions. We have compiled frequently asked questions to provide information and help you feel more confident in your treatment plan.

During the tooth preparation process, the dentist will use a local anesthetic, so you won’t feel any pain. After treatment, there might be slight tooth sensitivity, which will gradually subside on its own.

On average, dental crowns can last 10-15 years or longer. This depends on the material chosen, the tooth’s position, and most importantly, your oral health care.

Care for them just like general natural teeth: brush at least twice a day and use dental floss regularly to clean between teeth and the gum line where the crown sits, to prevent gingivitis and decay under the crown.

The dentist will place a “temporary crown,” which provides aesthetics and function to a certain level. However, you should avoid chewing very hard or sticky foods on that tooth to prevent the temporary crown from falling out or breaking.

If hygiene care is not adequate, plaque can accumulate at the crown margin where it meets the gum, causing gingivitis just like with natural teeth. Therefore, using dental floss and getting regular dental check-ups is very important.
