A denture that clips onto implants
Implants are placed in the jaw and fitted with small attachments. Matching parts inside the denture clip onto them, which holds the denture firmly while you eat and talk. You remove it yourself for cleaning and at night if advised.
Lower jaw: usually 2 implants
Two implants are the minimum for a lower overdenture and suit many patients whose lower denture moves when they eat or speak.
Upper jaw: usually 4 implants
The upper jaw has softer bone, so four implants are usually planned. The final number depends on your bone, bite force and CT scan.
Locator or bar attachments
Most overdentures use locator attachments, which have replaceable nylon inserts. A bar connecting the implants may be used in some cases. Dr. Nalat will recommend the design for you.

Overdenture or All-on-4?
Both replace a full arch of teeth on implants. The main difference is that an overdenture is removable by you, while All-on-4 is fixed and only removed by the dentist.

Overdenture treatment takes about 3–6 months from implant placement to the final denture, to allow the implants to bond with the bone.

Can my existing denture be converted to an overdenture?
Sometimes. If your current denture fits well and is in good condition, attachments may be added to it after the implants heal. Otherwise a new overdenture is made. This is assessed at your examination.
How do I clean an implant overdenture?
Remove the denture every day and clean it with a soft brush, and gently clean around the implant attachments in your mouth. The nylon inserts in the attachments wear over time and are replaced at check-ups.
Is implant surgery for an overdenture painful?
Implants are placed under local anaesthesia, so you should not feel pain during the procedure. Mild soreness or swelling for a few days afterwards is common and is managed with prescribed medication.
