A Crucial Step for Successful Dental Implants

The success of dental implants depends on the most critical foundation: the quantity and quality of the jawbone. When a tooth is lost, the surrounding bone naturally begins to atrophy and resorb, reducing bone mass to the point where it may be insufficient to support an implant. Dental bone grafting is, therefore, a safe and vital procedure to regenerate bone mass, preparing the site for perfect and stable implant placement.

Our Bone Grafting Services

Our team of expert dentists is skilled in various bone grafting techniques, selecting the most suitable method and materials for each individual to achieve the best results.

  • Socket Preservation : Performed immediately after tooth extraction to prevent bone collapse.
  • Ridge Augmentation : Increases the thickness of a jawbone ridge that has atrophied or is too narrow.
  • Sinus Lift : A bone grafting procedure for the upper posterior teeth to increase bone volume in the area near the sinus cavity.
  • Bone Graft Materials : We select internationally standardized materials that are highly safe and biocompatible.

Who Should Consider Bone Grafting

This treatment is suitable for individuals with the following qualifications:

  • Those who want dental implants but have insufficient jawbone mass.
  • Those who have lost teeth for a long time, causing the bone in that area to atrophy.
  • Those who have lost bone mass due to severe periodontitis (gum disease).
  • Those who need dental implants in the upper molar area, which is close to the sinus cavity.

How to Prepare Before Treatment

To ensure the bone grafting procedure goes smoothly and safely, preparation is essential:

  1. Consultation and Diagnosis: The dentist will perform X-rays and a 3D scan (CT Scan) to assess bone quantity and plan the treatment in detail.
  2. Select Bone Graft Material: The dentist will provide information and recommend the bone substitute material that is suitable for you.
  3. Provide Medical History: You should inform the dentist of any underlying diseases, drug allergies, and all medications you are currently taking.
  4. Health Care: Refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol before and after surgery, according to the dentist’s instructions.

Atrophied or thin jawbone is no longer an obstacle to getting dental implants. At SMILE AND SHINE, we have the expertise and technology ready to restore your bone mass to strength again, creating a stable foundation for beautiful, long-lasting new teeth. Don’t let bone limitations hinder your confidence.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Dental bone grafting might sound complicated. We have compiled the most frequently asked questions here to alleviate your concerns and help you understand the process better.

The dentist will use a local anesthetic to ensure you are most comfortable during the procedure. After treatment, some swelling may occur during the first 2-3 days, which is normal and can be managed with painkillers and cold compresses as advised.

There are several types of materials used, such as the patient’s own bone, synthetic bone, or bone from a donor that has undergone a sterilization process and high-safety preparation (Allograft). These materials meet certified standards and are biocompatible.

Generally, you can return to work or daily life within 1-2 days after treatment. However, you should avoid strenuous activities during the first week. The process of new bone formation will take several months.

On average, you will need to wait about 4-9 months for the new bone to fully mature and become strong enough to securely support the dental implant. The dentist will evaluate the most appropriate timing for you.

Bone grafting is performed only when the dentist assesses that your existing bone mass is insufficient for the implant to anchor completely. If you have strong and sufficiently dense bone, dental implants can be placed directly.
