Broken Denture Restoration

Restoring a smile with both missing and weak existing teeth requires comprehensive planning. This patient presented with a broken, unusable denture, alongside weak front teeth compromised by root canals and large fillings. Our combined plan used crowns to reinforce the weak teeth and fabricated a new, beautiful, and functional denture set.

Patient’s Problem

The patient had worn a removable denture for many years, but it was now broken. Upon oral examination, several concurrent issues were discovered:

  • Some anterior (front) teeth had undergone root canal treatment and had large, old fillings, making them brittle.
  • Some front teeth had been extracted a long time ago, causing the alveolar bone ridge to thin and reduce in volume.
  • The overall shape, color, and alignment of the remaining teeth were inconsistent.

Combination Treatment Plan

Since the patient was already accustomed to wearing a removable denture and did not wish to undergo additional surgery (like implants), the dental team devised the following combination plan:

  1. Post & Core: To provide an internal structural core and add strength to the root canal-treated teeth.
  2. Dental Crowns: To be placed on the remaining anterior teeth. This would protect the weakened teeth while also improving their shape, color, and alignment for a uniform appearance.
  3. Removable Partial Denture: A new, custom-designed denture frame to effectively replace the missing teeth.

Treatment Steps

  1. Impressions were taken to plan and design the new crowns and partial denture.
  2. The existing teeth were prepared, the posts were placed, and the custom-designed crowns were fitted.
  3. The new removable partial denture was delivered and adjusted for a precise, comfortable, and functional fit.

Outcome and Function

The patient achieved a beautiful, natural-looking smile and an improved bite. They were able to eat and smile with confidence again, thanks to an uncomplicated treatment plan that was perfectly suited to their specific needs.
