What is a Straumann dental implant?
Straumann is a dental implant manufacturer based in Basel, Switzerland. Its implants are backed by research and used worldwide. Two of its own developments are the Roxolid material and the SLActive surface.
Roxolid material
An alloy of roughly 85% titanium and 15% zirconium. The manufacturer states it is stronger than conventional titanium implants, which allows a narrower implant where space is limited.
SLActive surface
A hydrophilic surface that the manufacturer designed to support faster early bone attachment. Actual healing time still depends on each patient’s bone.
Complete system
Abutments and components for single teeth, bridges and full-arch work, with support for digital treatment planning.
Roxolid vs Roxolid SLActive
Both use the same Roxolid material; the difference is the implant surface. Prices include the implant, abutment and zirconia crown.

How we choose the Straumann implant model
The model is chosen from your 3D CBCT scan, looking at bone volume and quality, tooth position and the restoration plan. Because we can place all four lines, the implant can be matched to your case.
BLX (Bone Level)
A fully tapered bone-level implant that the manufacturer designed for placement straight after extraction (immediate placement) and for high initial stability.
BLT (Bone Level Tapered)
A tapered bone-level implant used in many positions, including front teeth where gum aesthetics matter.
TLX (Tissue Level)
A tapered implant with the connection at gum level, which the manufacturer designed to make cleaning around the implant easier. Often used for back teeth.
BLC (Bone Level)
A conical, tapered implant that shares components with BLX. Suited to tight spaces, such as a narrow ridge or close neighbouring roots.

Straumann implant treatment, step by step
From implant placement to the final crown usually takes about 3–6 months, depending on your bone and whether grafting is needed. Overseas patients typically plan two trips.

Examination and 3D CBCT scan
We assess bone volume and the position of nerves and sinuses to choose the implant model and size. You can send an existing X-ray or CT scan before you travel.

Treatment plan and price confirmation
Dr. Nalat explains the plan, timeline and total cost in writing before anything begins.

Implant placement
Done under local anaesthesia. In suitable cases the implant can be placed right after extraction.

Healing
About 3–6 months for the bone to attach to the implant. Front teeth get a temporary tooth while you wait.

How is Straumann different from Korean implant systems?
Both are internationally used implant systems. Straumann is a Swiss system with its own Roxolid material and SLActive surface. Korean systems (Neobiotech, Osstem, Dentium) start at 35,000 THB per tooth at our clinic. Dr. Nalat will help you choose the system that suits your bone, bite and budget.
Can I choose the BLX, BLT, TLX or BLC model myself?
The implant model is selected by the dentist from your 3D CBCT scan, based on bone volume and quality, tooth position and the restoration plan. Our clinic can place all four lines (BLX, BLT, TLX and BLC), so the model can be matched to each case. The reason for the choice is explained to you before treatment.
How do I know I received a genuine Straumann implant?
Check the documents you receive after implant placement: the Straumann Implant Passport and an implant record showing the model, size and LOT number. At Smile and Shine, every Straumann implant is ordered through Straumann Thailand and every patient receives these documents. Straumann implants are also covered by the Straumann Guarantee, subject to Straumann’s conditions.
How long does Straumann implant treatment take?
After the implant is placed, healing usually takes about 3–6 months before the abutment and crown are fitted. The actual time depends on your bone, whether bone grafting is needed and the tooth position. Overseas patients typically need two trips; we will give you an estimated timeline in your treatment plan.
Can I have an MRI with a Straumann implant?
In general, titanium and titanium-zirconium implants are not a contraindication for MRI, but you should always tell your doctor and the radiology staff that you have a dental implant.
How long do Straumann implants last?
How long an implant lasts depends on gum health, oral hygiene, your bite and regular follow-up. We recommend an implant check and professional cleaning at least once a year to help keep your implant working long term.
